Safeguarding training

I f you want to become an LTA Accredited Coach , you’ll need to have safeguarding training, which teaches you how to safeguard children and vulnerable adults by enabling you to recognise, respond, refer and record concerns in a tennis environment.

What safeguarding training do I need to complete?

Safeguarding training is essential for anyone who has contact with children and/or vulnerable adults in a tennis environment, which is why it must be completed every 3 years.

Essentially, if you keep your safeguarding training up to date and complete it every 3 years then you will alternate between a tutor-led course, and the LTA Learn online course.

How do I book onto a safeguarding training course?

To book a 'Safeguarding & Protection in Tennis' course, delivered by a qualified tutor, click below:

To book the LTA Learn online refresher course, 'Safeguarding in Tennis Together', click below:

When booking your online refresher course, please ensure that you are selecting the one relevant to your role, i.e. Coaches, Welfare Officers, Officials.

I have a safeguarding certificate, how do I have this added to my coach profile?

We may be able to accept safeguarding training which was not completed with the LTA, if it covered the following:

*If the course did not contain Prevent training then this can be completed by accessing the Prevent training course:

We do accept the UK Coaching ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’ training course and Local Authority safeguarding training (provided that it includes information on the Prevent Duty).

If your training met the above criteria and you'd like to submit your non-LTA safeguarding certificate then you can do so below:

If you completed a Safeguarding training course with an LTA Coach Development Centre then you do not need to take any action for this to be added to your training record.

Why do I need safeguarding training?

Safeguarding training teaches you how to safeguard children and adults at risk by enabling you to recognise, respond, refer and record concerns in a tennis environment.

It is also training that coaches are required to do if you wish to join the LTA Coach Accreditation scheme.

Additionally, in 2019, it became mandatory for all Level 3-5 qualified coaches operating at any LTA Registered Venues to be members of Coach Accreditation.

From Autumn 2022, in addition to the above, anyone holding an LTA Instructor (Level 2), or an overseas or external tennis coaching qualification, who is actively delivering coaching activity at LTA Registered Venues must be members of LTA Coach Accreditation.
